Stephanie Dubois crushes Julia Glushko in the semis – Challenger of Granby 2011 CH
Top seed Stephanie Dubois of Canada continued her bolstering form at the National Bank’s Challenger of Granby, defeating the third seed Israeli competitor, Julia Glushko, in the semi-final encounter on Saturday.
Being played at Granby, Canada, Dubois exhibited a magnificent display of hard-court tennis in from of her home crowd to reach the final of the ITF (International Tennis Federation) tournament. The Canadian wrapped up a convincing
straight sets victory at 6-3, 6-2, taking merely one hour and eighteen minutes of play to dispose of Glushko from the tournament.
The home favourite, Dubois, was absolutely devastating throughout the contest and gave no chance to the third seeded Israeli to get her hold on the game. The top seed was off to a cracking start in the opening set and then never
looked back till she concluded victory in the second set.
24-year-old Dubois took off the opener with a serve break right away, putting her opponent under pressure early. Her 66 per cent precise serve earned her 17 first serve points in the first set, while four crucial double faults
from the Israeli further pushed her to the top in the contest. Glushko broke back in the fifth game but she had to suffer a critical break point conversion from her top seeded opponent to let him to set point. A fiery forehand winner from the Canadian marked
an end to the opening set at 6-3, giving her a one-set lead in the matchup.
Dubois continued with her demolition job in the following set as well, driving Glushko out of the competition. Although her serve dropped drastically to just 46 per cent in the second set, Dubois converted three out of nine break
opportunities to come out as the winner. The Israeli also struck a serve break in the second set but it couldn’t prevent her defeat at the hands of the crowd favourite. Dubois nailed a cracking forehand winner down the line to mark an end to the contest in
her favour, sealing victory at 6-2.
The Canadian registered her fourth consecutive straight sets victory of the tournament to book a place in the final of the Challenger of Granby. She will have to go through the fourth seed Ling Zhang from Hong Kong to win the championships
title in the final. Zhang made a huge upset in the semi-final draws, when she outplayed the second seeded Ukrainian, Tetiana Luzhanska, in straight sets 6-2, 7-5,to book a date with Dubois in the final.
