Stephanie Dubois edges past Lena Litvak to reach the quarterfinals – Challenger of Granby 2011 CH
Top seeds reign supreme in the second round of the National Bank’s Challenger of Granby, with Stephane Dubois of Canada winning her match against Lena Litvak of the United States on Wednesday.
Being played at Granby, Canada, the home favourite Dubois cruised to victory in one hour and eighteen minutes of play, wrapping up the contest in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, to book a place in the quarter-finals of the ITF (International
Tennis Federation) tournament.
Seeded at number one in the tournament, Dubois displayed her true class in the contest to simply outplay the unseeded American competitor. She face some resistance from Litvak in the opening set but blasted her way through the
second set to seal victory in the most authoritative manner, moving in to the round of eight in the tournament.
The contest took off with both players serving equally well and adopting aggressive strategy to get the better of one another early in the game. The Canadian banged three aces in the opener, while serving with 61 per cent precision
and reeled off 18 out of 22 first serve points, which proved to be the deciding factor in the matchup.
An early exchange of serve breaks was witnessed in the opening set to take the scores to 3-all. Litvak played very well in the set but was out done by the amazing points winning proficiency of her top seeded opponent. A regular
game then took dead locked the scores at 5-5 and a tie breaker round was about to be enforced when Dubois made the all-crucial move to register her second serve break of the day. The Canadian bagged the opener at 7-5 to get the substantial position in the
matchup and then carried on with her winning momentum to take down Litvak in the following set as well.
The second set was absolutely dominated by Dubois, who didn’t give away a single chance to the American to bounce back in the game. Despite of an average serve of 58 per cent, the top seeded Canadian clinched 14 out of 19 first
serve points and cracked in two vital serve breaks en route to victory. Litvak had five break chances in the second set but the American carelessly squandered away all of the opportunities to surrender the contest at 1-6, letting Dubois in the quarter-final
draws.
The Canadian will next meet the seventh seed Wen-Hsin Hsu of Chinese Taipei for a place in the semi-finals of the Challenger of Granby.
