Stephanie Gilmore and Carissa Moore move into Roxy Pro Biarritz 2012 semi-finals
Australia’s Stephanie Gilmore and Hawaii’s Carissa Moore made their way through into the semi-finals at Roxy Pro Biarritz 2012, the latest stop on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour, after putting on an impressive performance
to claim victory in their respective quarter-finals that took place at La Grande Plage in Biarritz, France, on Saturday, July 14.
Gilmore comfortably got the better of Hawaii’s Malia Manuel in the third Quarter-final to advance to the semi-finals while removing her rival from the contention for the event title.
The fourth Quarter-final saw Moore take down Australia’s Laura Enever to secure her place in the next stage of the event.
The final day of the competition saw challenging surfing conditions prevailing at the primary event site, promising to deliver thrilling action as the elite ASP female surfers continued their pursuit of the overall victory.
Pitted against Manuel in the third quarter-final, Gilmore was the heavy favourite. The former four-time ASP Women’s World Champion showed no mercy to her rival during the course of the battle. As the battle got underway, she went down to work without wasting
any time. Locking a relatively juicy wave, she unloaded a series of exquisite tricks to post a 6.67 on the score-board and immediately backed it up with a 6.90-point ride, thus reaching a heat-total of 13.57 points.
Manuel was unable to come up with a solid response, managing to score an ordinary 4.00 off her first business-wave and later adding an additional 6.00 points to her account to finish with a heat-total of 10.00 points. The 3.57-point deficit forced her to
concede victory and thus the semi-final spot to her rival.
The next quarter-final heat featured a superb performance by defending ASP Women’s World Champion Moore as she took down Enever to secure her place in the next round.
The Hawaiian surfer got off to a strong start, earning a 7.33 off her first business-wave and later went on to add an additional 9.00 points to her account, thus finishing with a heat-total of 16.33 points.
Enever responded with a 4.50 off her first business-wave and a 7.57 off her second business-wave, thus finishing with a resultant heat-total of 12.07 points. The 4.26-point deficit forced her to taste defeat and thus concede the semi-final spot to Moore.
