Stephanie Horner impresses in Women’s 400m IM heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Stephanie Horner of IS impressed her fans in the preliminary rounds of Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Wednesday, March 28.
The 23-year-old Horner experienced strong battle from Breanne Siwicki of MANTA in the eight-lap IM discipline but with her intellectual swim in the final lap, she succeeded in outperforming her on the finishing end for top qualification spot in the playoff.
Horner met expectations of her supporters by completing the distant IM event in first position as she tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 46.62 seconds. Her scintillating effort was chased by Siwicki, who remained just 0.16 seconds away from
Horner and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 46.78 seconds.
The 17-year-old Siwicki stayed prominently ahead of her following swimmer, Alexa Komarnycky of IS, who stayed 1.18 seconds slower and posted a time of 4 minutes and 47.96 seconds for third position.
Komarnycky was chased by Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson of NKB, who stayed nearly two seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 49.60 seconds to enter the playoff.
She was followed by Vanessa Treasure of TSC and Hanna Pierse of VAND, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck race for fifth best spot of the event. Both swimmers tried hard to overpower each other and reach the finishing wall first, but failed to achieve
so and ended their swims with an identical effort of 4 minutes and 50.53 seconds for fifth position.
The duo of fifth position holder was chased by Melanie Dodds of LOSC, who was 0.70 seconds slower from them on the wall and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 51.23 seconds for seventh position.
Dodds was trailed by Karyn Jewell of CNG, who stayed slightly slower from her foregoing finisher and seized eighth best qualification spot of the event by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 51.67 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Horner was overjoyed with her accomplishment and stressed that she will try to maintain her spot in the playoff.
