Stephanie Millward, Daniel Pepper and Charlotte Henshaw win gold medals- BT Paralympic World Cup
Stephanie Millward, Daniel Pepper and Charlotte Henshaw secured gold medals in their events at the 2011 British Paralympic World Cup on Saturday, May 28.
The session included the finals of the S9 100m back-stroke, S14 200m freestyle, SB6 100m breast-stroke, S8 400m freestyle, S9 50m freestyle and the S7 100m back-stroke in the Men’s and Women’s category.
The session initiated with the Women’s S9 100m back-stroke, where Stephanie Millward won the gold medal in 1:11.13 minutes. She was followed by Ellie Cole and Elizabeth Stone, who finished for the silver and bronze medals behind Millward, with timings of
1:11.82 and 1:15.14 minutes, respectively.
Next was the Men’s S14 200m freestyle, where Daniel Pepper of Britain cruised his way to the finishing wall for the gold medal, posting a time of 2:04.10 minutes. He was only 0.39 seconds ahead of Ben Procter, who reached the podium for the silver medal,
by clocking a time of 2:04.49 minutes. They were followed by Craig Groenewald, who gained the bronze medal for his wonderful effort of 2:05.52 minutes.
Moments later, Charlotte Henshaw conquered the gold medal of the Women’s SB6 100m breast-stroke, posting a 1:39.33 minutes effort. Elizabeth Johnson and Kirsten Bruhn followed her on the podium for the silver and bronze medal, clocking 1:39.61 and 1:40.56
minutes, respectively.
In the Men’s S8 400m freestyle, the arena witnessed a superb effort of Sam Hynd, pocketing the gold medal of the event with a timing of 4:28.99. He was comfortably away from his closest swimmers, Thomas Young and Sean Fraser, who stepped on the podium for
the silver and bronze medals, touching the wall in 4:36.78 and 4:40.23 minutes, respectively.
Subsequently, Louise Watkin of Britain clinched the Women’s S9 50m freestyle gold medal, with a timing of 30.04 seconds. Stephanie Millward and Claire Cashmore followed her on the podium for their silver and bronze medal efforts of 30.20 and 30.38 seconds.
The last event of the session was the Men’s S7 100m back-stroke, where China’s Nan Gao posted a time of 1:14.34 minutes to earn the gold medal. Gao was almost one second faster than his strongest competitor, Mihovil Spanja, who touched the wall for silver
medal in 1:15.12 minutes. They were followed by Guillermo Marro, who completed his swim in 1:15.99 to capture the bronze medal.
The session concluded after the last event, after which the arena applauded the impressive swims of the BT Paralympic swimmers, who secured podium finishes.
