Stephanie Peacock seizes Women’s 400m freestyle gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Stephanie Peacock of Swim Florida seized gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on second day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 8.
Peacock, who qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal, lived up to the expectations of her supporters by clinching gold medal of the event.
With her furious efforts, the 20-year-old Peacock stayed considerably ahead of her opponents throughout the race and appeared on the starting blocks for gold medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 09.31 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Catherine Breed of Pleasanton Seahawks, who stayed nearly one body length behind and transpired on the finishing end for silver medal by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 10.24 seconds.
Breed was traced by Rebecca Mann of Clearwater Aquatics, who was only 0.52 seconds away from her former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 10.76 seconds for bronze medal.
Mann was chased by Chelsea Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team, who was 0.29 seconds away from her foregoing swimmer and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer with an effort of 4 minutes and 11.05 seconds.
Similarly, Chenault was followed by Anne Bochmann of Bath ITC, who stayed only 0.06 seconds slower from improving her position and transpired on the wall as fifth best swimmer with the timing of 4 minutes and 11.11 seconds.
Sixth best place of the race was secured by Ashley Steenvoorden of Minnesota Aquatics, who suffered a loss of only 0.01 second and tapped the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 11.12 seconds.
Steenvoorden was trailed by Camryne Morris of North Baltimore, who remained 0.39 seconds apart and posted a time of 4 minutes and 11.51 seconds for seventh position.
The 17-year-old Morris was followed by Sarah Henry, who failed to surpass any of her fellow swimmers and ended her race in a time of 4 minutes and 12.67 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Peacock expressed contentment over her title claiming effort after the event.
