Stephanie Peacock wins Women’s 400m freestyle heats – US Open Swimming Championships
Stephanie Peacock of Swim Florida won the qualifying rounds of the Women’s 400m freestyle on second day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 8.
Peacock, who captured gold medal of the 800m discipline on first day, went full rampant in the mediocre distance freestyle event to prove her mettle for fastest qualification spot of the race.
The 20-year-old Peacock stayed more than a body length ahead of her following swimmer and made her way to the finishing wall for first position by producing a time of 4 minutes and 10.57 seconds.
The second fastest qualification spot of the race was secured by Chelsea Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team, who remained only 1.07 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 11.64 seconds.
Chenault was followed by Sarah Henry of Aggie Swim Club, who remained nearly half body length behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 12.02 seconds for third position.
Henry was trailed by Rebecca Mann of Clearwater Aquatics, who remained 0.57 seconds apart and finished her race in fourth best place by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 12.59 seconds.
Similarly, fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Ashley Steenvoorden of Minnesota Aquatics, who was almost two strokes apart and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 12.91 seconds.
Steenvoorden was followed by Anne Bochmann of Bath ITC, who was only 0.05 seconds slower from her former finisher and posted a time of 4 minutes and 12.96 seconds for sixth position.
Bochmann was chased by Catherine Breed of Pleasanton Seahawks, who ended her race in a time of 4 minutes and 13.52 seconds to enter the final round.
Last qualification spot of the event was obtained by Camryne Morris of North Baltimore, who remained 0.28 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with an effort of 4 minutes and 13.80 seconds.
Peacock was overjoyed with her fastest qualification effort, as she remained just a step away from securing gold medal of the event.
