Stephanie Rice claims Women’s 200m IM gold: Day four – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Three-time Olympic gold medallist, Stephanie Rice of St Peters Western Swim Club claimed gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day four of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre
in Adelaide on Sunday, March 18.
The 23-year-old Rice served notice of her talent by pocketing gold medal of the IM discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 09.38 seconds. She was chased by Alicia Coutts of Redlands, who seized silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes
and 09.83 seconds.
The third spot of the discipline was obtained by Emily Seebohm of Nudgee Brothers, who remained almost three seconds slower from her former finisher and reached the victory stand for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.37 seconds.
Subsequently, James Magnussen of SOPAC conquered the semi-final of Men’s 100m freestyle, where he clocked an effort of 47.93 seconds. He was trailed by Matthew Targett of Melbourne, who suffered a loss of 0.63 seconds and transpired on the finishing blockade
with an effort of 48.56 seconds.
The 26-year-old Targett stayed 0.04 seconds ahead of Somerset’s James Roberts, who clinched third finest spot of the discipline by posting 48.60 seconds.
In the meantime, Nick D’Arcy snared gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly. The 24-year-old D’Arcy stifled hopes of his opponents by accomplishing gold medal of the four-lap butterfly discipline by touching the wall in a time of 1 minute and 54.71 seconds.
With his impeccable struggle, he remained almost two seconds ahead of Christopher Wright of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who proved his mettle for silver medal by concluding his race in a time of 1 minute and 56.40 seconds.
The 23-year-old Wright was trailed by Grant Irvine of St Peters Western Swim Club, who was just 0.27 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 56.67 seconds for bronze medal.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all listed events whereas the podium finishers were awarded medal and accolades for their notable efforts at the medal ceremony of the championship.
