Stephanie Rice wins Women’s 400m IM title: Santa Clara International Invitational 2011
In another exciting event, Stephanie Rice of Australia took home the golden crown in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley final at the 2011 Santa Clara International Invitational in Santa Clara, California, June 18.
Rice completed her distance in the respective race with a record time of 4 minutes and 36.52 seconds. Owing to this efficient performance in the 400m IM, Rice has improved to fourth place in the world rankings.
Meanwhile, Mireia Belmonte retains the number one spot in it with a sterling time of 4 minutes and 34.91 seconds. Li Xuanxu is on the second place in the international rankings with a time of 4 minutes and 35.73 seconds, while Hannah Miley is third with
a time of 4 minutes and 35.89 seconds.
Earlier, Rice set a world record in the Women’s 400m IM with a victorious time of 4 minutes and 38.61 seconds in April, 2011. Most fascinatingly, she nabbed three gold medals in the Women’s 200m medley, 400m medley and 4x200m freestyle finals at the 2008
Olympic Games in Beijing. She won two golden crowns in the Women’s 200m and 400m medley races at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
Despite her recent form in competitive swimming, Rice looks very determined and excited to win more golden crowns in swimming at the upcoming FINA World Championships in Shanghai, July, 2011. Besides, she has been preparing herself immensely hard for the
London 2012 Olympics.
Placed second in the corresponding meet was Madeline DiRado of Stanford with a winning time of 4 minutes and 40.90 seconds for her 16th
spot, while Jana Mangimelli earned third place honours with a time of 4 minutes and 41.23 seconds for her 17th place in the international rankings.
Andie Taylor of Stanford secured fourth spot in 4 minutes and 42.71 seconds for her 25th
position, while Julia Smit surprisingly finished ninth with a time of 4 minutes and 46.29 seconds. In the meantime, Madison Kennedy nabbed the Women’s 50m freestyle crown with a sterling time 25.23 seconds, while William Copeland of California clinched
the Men’s 50m freestyle title with a time of 22.69 seconds.
