Stephanie Whan occupies Girls 100m butterfly gold – 2013 GHSF Australian Championships
Stephanie Whan of MLC Aquatic occupied gold medal of the Girls 100m butterfly on first day of the 2013 GHSF Australian Age Swimming Championships in SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Adelaide on Monday, April 8.
The 14-year-old Whan stunned the aquatic crowd with her gruelling efforts in the two-lap discipline. With her immaculate efforts, Whan showed no competition to her following swimmer and reached the wall for gold medal.
She lived up to the expectations of her supporters in the playoff, as she cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 00.61 seconds.
The champion was chased by Lucia Lassman of Miami, who was 0.57 seconds slower and made her way towards the finishing wall for silver medal with an effort of 1 minute and 01.18 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Mi Cornelissen of Traralgon, who was 0.81 seconds apart and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 01.99 seconds for bronze medal.
Cornelissen was chased by Tamsin Cook of Perth City, who was 0.54 seconds apart and completed her race in fourth place by posting a time of 1 minute and 02.54 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Darian Murray of Western Sprint, who was 0.70 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 03.23 seconds.
Murray was trailed by Angeli Barrett of Cranbrook, who was stayed 0.13 seconds slower and hit the wall for sixth position by posting a time of 1 minute and 03.36 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was obtained by s**+ Mulholland of Helensvale, who was 0.15 seconds away from upsetting her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 03.51 seconds.
Mulholland was trailed by Amy Van Dongen of Ravenswood, who was 0.53 seconds behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 04.04 seconds.
Furthermore, Whan was very happy with her top finish in the race and expressed her desire of making her friends and family proud by outshining at the international events.
