Stephanie’s Kitten will be representing Ken and Sarah Ramsey in the QE II Challenge Cup
Winner of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies last year at Churchill Downs, Stephanie’s Kitten, is Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey’s answer to the rest of the Grade 1, $400,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup lineup on 13 October, 2012, at Keeneland’s turf
course over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
Wayne M. Catalano trained 3-year-old filly, Stephanie’s Kitten is exiting victory in the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes on 19 August, 2012, at Saratoga’s turf course, where the filly went on to down Centre Court in second and Somali Lemonade in third with the
final time of 1 minute and 48.51 seconds for 1 1/8 miles.
Stephanie’s Kitten is the answer by Ken and Sarah Ramsey for Chad Brown trained Samitar and Dayatthespa, as both of them are exiting victory in their respective starts.
The England bred Samitar won the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes, while Dayatthespa is coming off splendid run in the Riskaverse Stakes.
Along with the Chad Brown duo, Stephanie’s Kitten will be contending against U.S. graded stakes winner as well as, Tannery, who is a group 3 winner in Europe.
Tannery will be making her second start on U.S. soil, and the daughter of Dylan Thomas made her debut at Belmont Park’s inner turf course when she ran in the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes over 1 1/8 miles.
"We had watched videos of her races and she was pretty tenacious," trainer Alan Goldberg said from Monmouth. "She would give you all she had."
"I don't think she was crazy about the turf that day," Goldberg said of Tannery’s third place finish in the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes. "The ground was very hard."
Godolphin Racing’s Better Lucky was a shade unlucky to finish as a runner-up in the Grade 2 Lake George Stakes, as she was a neck behind the winner Centre Court, and a head in front of third place finisher, Samitar.
She is also in the lineup of QE II Challenge Cup, but she is exiting a fifth place finish in the Grade 2 Lake placid Stakes. Somali Lemonade, Centre Court, and Treasured Up will make up a lineup of 8, 3-year-old fillies.
