Stephen Coppinger drills past Davide Bianchetti in 1st round – London Open 2011
Second seeded South African Stephen Coppinger whitewashed unseeded Italian Davide Bianchetti in the first round of the Coronation London Open 2011.
The players took up the gauntlet at the Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club in London, Great Britain during the PSA World Tour Challenger 15 which is in its fourth year. After a few minutes of play, the second seeded South African overpowered
the unseeded Italian with a score of 11-4, 9-11, 11-4, 13-11.
Opening the first round of the match was the second seeded South African and he got off to a wonderful start as he capitalized from a breakpoint and squandered two successive points to take a mini lead on the scoreboard. As he
did not drop the ball and kept rallying, he further extended his lead on the scoreboard.
On the other hand, the unseeded Italian was unable to make a substantial return and dropped the ball a few times. In doing so; the unseeded Italian lost most of his points and was also unable to settle into the initial game.
Nonetheless, the Italian picked up in the second set and put up a good fight against the second seeded South African. The players matched a blow for a blow but it was in the latter half of the set that the South African lost control
of the set by hitting the ball out of the service line. However, the unseeded Italian took advantage of the situation and reeled off two points to clinch the set with an 11-9 score.
During the last set, once again the two matched an eye for an eye and the score progressed on levelled terms and both the players had tied the score at eleven points each. However, during the next two games, the second seeded South
African smashed beautiful rail shots with variation technique and ultimately conquered the unseeded Italian by scooping two successive points.
In doing so; the second seeded South African managed to seal his victory of the set and the match. He will now be facing Hungarian Mark Krajcsak in the quarterfinal of the Coronation London Open 2011.
