Stephen Curry concentrating on his sociology degree during the lockout – NBA Update
In an anticipation of an extended National Basketball Association (NBA) lockout, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has gone back to Davidson College in order to get a degree of sociology.
Under normal circumstances, Curry would have been preparing for the training camps with his team in the Bay Area. However, considering the NBA lockout is still at a standstill with no progress whatsoever to ensure the beginning
of the 2011-2012 season. The combo guard is looking to complete his education.
Stephen has started his classes at the Davidson College and will be completing three courses in the fall semester. After finishing the semester, the NBA superstar will be a senior thesis away from getting his degree of sociology.
Curry has made his way back to college after two years. He was in the middle of his degree when he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors as the seventh overall pick during the 2009 NBA Draft. Although Curry has made a smart
decision to complete his degree, but there always is a possibility that the lockout may end while he is in the middle of a semester. The fact has not escaped curry’s attention;
"I've had that discussion with the dean of academics here and each of my professors. There are no shortcuts here. There is a kind of line that if I get past it, I could finish my assignments (independently) and the semester. But
I don't yet know where that line is class to class." Curry said.
In his two years in NBA, Curry has established himself as one of the premier young guards. During the two complete seasons with the Golden State Warriors so far, he not only lived up to the expectations, but is now considered as
the very foundation around which the Warriors are looking to build their future.
His career average at present stands at 18.0 points, 5.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds, which is incredible considering the fact that his job is mainly to spread the floor and facilitate shooters like Monta Ellis and Dorrell Wright.
In his first season, Stephen was inducted in the 2010 NBA All Rookie First Team. Last season, he received the NBA Sportsmanship award and also won Skills Challenge Championship during the All-Star Weekend 2011.
