Stephen Curry doesn’t expect Monta Ellis to be traded by Golden State Warriors – NBA Update
Golden State Warriors are not looking to their trade star shooting guard Monta Ellis, according to his teammate Stephen Curry. The second year combo guard has been reported to have had a rocky relationship with Ellis in the past but he wants Monta to stay with the Warriors and thinks the rumours of a trade are unfounded.
Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis form an exciting back court partnership for the Warriors. Stephen is viewed around the league as a talented point guard with good court vision and a deadly shot from beyond the arc. He put in consistently good performances last season and alongside Ellis, he is a major asset for Golden State.
Curry believes the Warriors will hang on to Monta as the player has now sorted things out with the management of the franchise.
“No,” Curry responded in an interview, as reported by Matt Steinmetz of CSNBayArea.com. “I think he’s happy where he’s at. We want him on our squad. He brings so much to the table from a leadership standpoint. He’s had some things going on with the front office with the Warriors, but all that’s cleared up now…”
Ellis is a burgeoning talent, already considered by many as one of the elite scorers in NBA basketball. He put in terrific offensive performances time and again last season and finished among the top five scorers. However, the guard is known to be less inclined towards the defensive aspects of the game and is alleged to have some issue within the team.
Against that backdrop, Ellis was strongly linked with a move away from the Warriors before the NBA lockout started on July 1st. Golden State reportedly considered a swap with Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers and Chris Kaman of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Both moves however failed to materialize before the lockout, meaning that Ellis is stuck with the Warriors for the time being. Not that they are complaining.
Monta is a genuinely exciting offensive talent and if he develops other aspects of his game, he could become one of the bigger stars in the game. Stephen Curry certainly holds him in high regard and said that the understanding between the backcourt partners was improving all the time.
“He attacks the lanes very well when he has the ball in his hands. If he’s not getting to the basket he can make plays. There’s a balance we have learning how to play together. When I don’t have the ball in my hands he knows I’m pretty good coming off screens.” Curry said, complementing his teammate.
What could help Ellis and the Warriors go up a level would not be a trade for the guard, but a foray into the free agency to get some genuine size on the roster. The front office should be worried about that rather than shipping out Monta.
