Stephen Curry expresses frustration after David Stern cancels the first two weeks of next NBA season
On Monday, October 10, the NBA formally announced the cancellation of 100 regular season games after negotiations between the NBA owners and players union, on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), failed to produce any
break through.
NBA Commissioner David Stern’s announcement to wipe out the first two weeks of regular season basketball has drawn sharp criticism from NBA’s fan base and analysts and the action will certainly cause a huge loss to the league on
all spectrums, be it financial or professional.
Stern’s decision has also drawn ire from a lot of NBA players. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry was one of the most vocal on the issue.
“I‘m kind of shocked,” Curry said, according to a report on Yahoo. “We’ve been on the right track, and I’ve been hopeful. But to see this is even more frustrating. “
The Warriors star did not expect things to turn this way after there was hope of a resolution at the start of September. However the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) and the NBA owners could not bridge their differences
on key matters by Monday, prompting the games to be called off.
It is a turn of even that has left the young Golden State guard bitterly disappointed.
The star though urged both sides not to let any more time slip by as they bicker about the issues. He was of the view that after a setback such as this, all expenses should be incurred in order to avoid a further loss of games,
which could eventually turn to a loss of the whole NBA season.
Curry, like all other members of the players union, had been warned that this might happen, and the player believes he will be OK. However, he still urged both sides to restart negotiations as soon as possible and get the NBA season
on track before it is too late.
“I know what’s at stake when they cancel games. I’m prepared for what’s to come. When you get to this point, the best thing to do is reconvene, not waste time, and figure out a way to get back on the floor.”
The Warriors have a good young roster spearheaded by Monta Ellis, who is fast becoming an elite scorer in the league. Curry is also blooming fast and he is someone who is considered as the one for the future at the Oakland franchise.
The next season might have been an acid test for the Warriors; however with all the chopping and disruptions in the planned NBA itinerary, the Warriors might have to wait for a bit longer to show their true credentials.
