Stephen Curry eyeing an August return to basketball court – NBA News
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is eyeing a return to basketball in August.
Curry had a surgery on his right ankle in April, and was sidelined for the rest of the season. He had been struggling with ankle problems for the last few seasons and the struggles became prominent in the shortened last season
The do-all guard has got loose debris and scar tissue removed from the ankle during the surgery, and is now looking forward to getting back to playing basketball in August, in time for the team training camp.
Talking to ESPNNewYork.com while present at the Launch event of the Samsung Galaxy S III Smartphone, he said:
“I hope to be cleared in August sometime to resume full workouts. And then after that, it's just getting back into shape, skill work and that kind of stuff to get ready. So I'll have two months to get ready for training camp, and
then I hope to have a normal year.”
Curry was recovering from ankle injury last postseason as well, after undergoing surgery in May last year to repair instability in the area after twisting his ankle on numerous occasions that forced him to miss 8 games.
He is now undergoing a more structured rehab process to allow himself to completely heal from the ankle injury and return next season in full fitness. After having suffered for two seasons with injury that limited his games and
affected his performance, he understands the need to get healthy soon and start performing for the team.
The lockout shortened season had a gruelling schedule, with not much gap between games. Curry said that he did not want to miss many games in an already shortened season so he hurried his return from a right ankle sprain and eventually
was sidelined in mid March for the rest of the season. He missed 40 games in all last season, and averaged a career low 14.7 points and 5.3 assists.
“If you missed two weeks this year, you probably missed double the games than you would in a normal season. So you felt pressure to get back, and it kind of messed with you a little bit. Mentally, it was probably the toughest year
for me, not really being able to get a rhythm, not playing consistent games. I think I missed more than half of the year,” said Curry.
Stephen is now looking towards next season to solidify his position in the NBA as a top point guard and also carry his team, who has been making quite a few moves in order to re-build the team.
Under the new owners, the franchise is all set to be shifted in the bigger market of San Francisco and the addition Andrew Bogut in the roster is also a step forward in the right direction. The Warriors also has the seventh pick
in this years’ draft and with Klay Thompson springing a pleasant surprise last season, the future does look bright for the team that has produced the legendary ‘Run TMC’.
