Stephen Curry set to support ‘ThanksUSA’ on his wedding day: NBA Update
Golden State Warriors’ do-all guard Stephen Curry has a style about him, whether he is on the court or off it. The second year guard, who wowed the league last season with his impressive ball play and went on to win the Skill’s
Challenge competition in the All-Star weekend, is going to celebrate his wedding in a generous way in order to help the families of the USA military.
Instead of receiving wedding presents, the 23 year old Curry and his fiancée Ayesha Alexander have asked their guest to contribute to ‘ThanksUSA’, an organization that supports the families of the armed forces.
Stephen Curry joined forces with the organization in November 2010 as a national spokesperson, to carry their mission of supporting the military. Curry has been working really hard since then to promote ThanksUSA and will continue
to play his part on the biggest day of his life as well.
"I was inspired by the ability to partner with an organization like ThanksUSA that supports our troops and promotes educational values. Ayesha and I encourage all to give generously to all our service women and men, and their families
back home. As we enter our second decade of war, the ongoing commitment our military and their families are making needs to be recognized and rewarded." Curry said.
ThanksUSA which was formed in 2005 provides need-based and educational scholarships to military officers and their families for their services and sacrifices to the country. The Chairman of the organization Bob Okun was very pleased
by Curry’s continued support to the noble cause and said,
"By showing his support, Stephen is sending a message to those on the battlefield that America will help care for their families, as they care for ours,"
Stephen himself received a scholarship at Davidson College in North Carolina, one that not only opened the doors for the young NBA stars to receive education, but also enabled him to initiate a tremendous career in basketball.
He has experienced the system first hand and knows its benefits.
During the last two seasons in the Golden State Warriors’ uniform, Stephen has averaged 18 points, 5.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. He along with Monta Ellis was the main reason that the Warriors emerged as a force on the
front court last season. With the NBA lockout still at a standstill, Stephen Curry is planning to re-enrol himself at the Davidson College and get the degree of Sociology this fall.
