Stephen Dodd and Marcel Siem tied for the lead after second round of KLM Open – Golf news
Surprisingly, relatively unknown players on the European Tour have managed to forge their way up the leaderboard after the second day’s proceedings in the KLM Open at Hilversumsche Golf Club, Netherlands. Welshman, Stephen Dodd posted a brilliant six-under,
66, on the second day to edge past the rest of the field, finishing for a joint lead alongside German, Marcel Siem, who has kept his composure to play well on the first two days.
Both players, however, have yet to finish their second round holes owing to the delay in first round proceedings on Thursday.
Dodd, now 45, dodged the wet greens of the Hilversumsche which were declared unplayable on Thursday and the first round was suspended to allow the ground staff to work on the flooded course. The event a kicked-off with a delay of 45 minutes because of damaged
greens after overnight vandalism by miscreants.
Dodd who had a humble two-under, 68, on the first round, blasted off with a blistering eagle on the back nine of the second round and pulled in three birdies before making the turn. He is yet to play the remaining five holes on the front nine.
Siem, who leapt into contention from the very start of the event, managed to retain his lead with three-under, 67, on the second day against a more solid five-under, 65 on the first. The 31-year-old German is having a great time on the course where he has
carded eagles on the back nine of both rounds. He dropped one shot at par-four, 16th, on the second day and is yet to complete the remaining seven holes of the front nine.
US Open champion, Rory McIlroy decided to take the bull by the horns and pulled in a stellar five-under, 65, on the second day to settle for a joint seventh with Swede golfer, Oscar Floren.
Shiv Kapur, the rising Indian star, pulled himself up the leaderboard with an impressive four-under, 66, on the first day and three-under, 67, on the second, to finish for an outright third. Kapur carded four birdies and dropped just one shot in the second
round.
