Stephen Gallacher earns a brand new Mercedes Benz S sedan thanks to an ace - Golf News
Scottish professional golfer, Stephen Gallacher, fired a hole-in-one in the opening round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and was awarded with a brand new Mercedes Benz S sedan, worth £60,000 on Thursday, February 9, 2012.
He carded two bogeys and an ace against a single bogey in his round of three-under par 69.
This was his second ace ever in his professional career, which helped him finish in a tie for the 20th, along with Richie Ramsay at the end of the first round.
Not only was this his second ace, it also came on the same course, the Emirates Golf Club, that witnessed his first hole-in-one in the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic in 2005.
At that time, he was awarded with the honour of the fifth tee.
Moreover, he became the seventh professional player to record an ace in the 2012 golf season and the 24th in the 23-year history of the tournament.
In addition to that, he continued the run of Scots making aces on the European Tour. Last year, Elliot Saltman fired a total of three aces alone.
However, he was not as lucky as Gallacher to get a dashing car after making them.
“You can never beat a hole-in-one and the funny thing both aces I’ve had on the Tour have been here in Dubai and on this golf course,” Gallacher said. “My tee shot never left the flag and it took a bounce or two and dropped”.
“But the bizarre thing is that I only just bought my wife, Helen a new car.  It’s an Audi so I don’t know what I’m going to do with the Mercedes,” he added.
Another Scottish player Scott Jamieson also made a comeback to his form after firing a splendid seven-under par 65 to take the second position on the leaderboard, sharing with German Marcel Siem.
“It was probably one of my best ball-striking rounds ever. I hit a lot of shots really close. I didn’t hole many particularly long putts but I holed out well,” Jamieson said.
He carded a total of five birdies and an eagle in his spectacular bogey-free round and said that he wants to continue his form in the remaining rounds and end up on top of the leaderboard on Sunday evening.
