Stephen Gallacher gives Avantha Masters a miss, plans to spend time with family
Stephen Gallacher, who shared the second spot with Lee Westwood at the Dubai Desert Classic last week, has made up his mind about giving the Avantha Masters a miss.
Gallacher is in India these days, where he was scheduled to participate in the Avantha Masters at New Delhi.
However, the Scot is believed to have changed his mind and will spend some time in India with his family.
Gallacher appears to be jet-lagged and tired after playing in the Dubai Desert Classic. He exhibited an impressive performance in the tournament, giving his nearest rivals a tough time.
He was asked why he had the change of mind when he could have a good opportunity to shine at the Avantha Masters.
He tried to dispel concerns about his schedule, saying he did not have the heart to play the event at New Delhi in the first place.
He added that he had been wishing to spare some time and the second place finish at Dubai gave him enough mental relief to take a break.
Responding to a deluge of questions regarding the upcoming events, he said he is mapping out plans for the rest of the season.
The 2012 season will host plenty of challenging tournaments and Gallacher’s presence has now become more important than ever, as he finished the Dubai Classic in an impressive style.
“I wasn’t too keen on India when I last played there and, with the kids on holiday this week, I’ve decided to head home,” said Gallacher.
The 37-year-old Scottish star had been in the headlines before heading to Dubai. According to analysts, he has lived up to his and fans’ expectations.
He could have snatched the title but a few lapses hampered him from advancing. If he had managed to win the event at Dubai, he would have broken his 8-year winning drought, opening a door of opportunities in the upcoming seasons.
Speaking of his missing out on the chance to win the Desert Classic, Gallacher said that he could have won if he had avoided messing up his final round.
Making a failed attempt at a 15-foot putt in the last moments proved a disaster for him, giving Rafael Cabrera-Bello a chance to seize the victory.
“I am a little disappointed because I would love to have made a play-off and I had a chance of sorts at the last. But, on the whole, I’m happy,” he said.
