Stephen Gallacher leaps on the 82nd world ranking position
Stephen Gallacher is now ranked on the 82nd position in the Official World Golf Rankings, after finishing second at the Maybank Malaysian Open.
Louis Oosthuizen is the winner of the tournament. He scored 17-under 271 and displayed an amazing performance throughout four days.
Whereas, Gallacher finished three strokes behind the leader by scoring 14-under 274, at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 15, 2012.
The 37-year-old Scottish competed well for the title and took an early advantage in the first bogey free round on Thursday, by scoring 3 birdies.
Then he paced up his performance and scored five more birdies on Friday. In the third round he recorded five impressive long putt birdies.
Hence, till Saturday he scored well and was among the top-5 of the leaderboard. Then he maintained his performance and secured the second position after shooting an amazing eagle, three birdies and finishing bogey free again.
He added -5 to the leaderboard on Sunday and gave tough times to the others. He was unable to win, but he improved his world ranking position from 110. He has leapt 28 places and earned the 82nd spot.
This was the second time for the Scottish, in the current season, to be ranked among the top-100 golf players of the world. Last time, it was in February, where Gallacher finished on the second position at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
Luke Donald who was leading the top ranking position has now dropped to the second. He finished the RBC Heritage on the 37th position and lost his domination.
Rory McIlroy, who was on the second spot, is the current number one. He defeated Donald after showing a tremendous piece of performance since January.
In 2012, McIlroy won the Honda Classic and recorded top-10 finishes in the rest of the tournaments. Hence, he is in his full form and will be titling more events in the near future.
Still there are many tournaments left to be staged in the near future. Therefore, the Scottish Gallacher also has ample chances to be impressive in the upcoming events.
He is improving his skills, driving distance, accuracy, performance on the greens and putting. If he achieves the world high standards, then he can further pace his ranking up and can be ranked among the top 50’s.
