Stephen Graham optimistic about Malaysian Hockey League
Stephen Graham will be making his debut for UniKL-TRC in this season’s Malaysian Hockey League (MHL), which is starting from Friday, December 17th, 2010.
"The players and officials in UniKL have made me feel welcomed and its like a family atmosphere in training and off the pitch,” said Graham. “The experience playing alongside and against skillful players weekly will no doubt help
me develop my game as well."
Graham, who is from Tauranga, New Zealand, has acquired 13 international caps for the New Zealand hockey team. He made his international debut in January 2007 against the Netherlands. He was also part of the Midlands team, which
won the New Zealand League in 2008. The 25-year-old goalkeeper is now hoping to help UniKL-TRC succeed in the MHL.
Graham believes UniKL-TRC is quite ready to face this season’s fearsome MHL line-up. He is also aware that he will have to save goals off outstanding strikers from Malaysia, India and Pakistan, including Faizal Saari, Tengku Ahmad,
Tajuddin, Hafifi Hafiz, Azlan Misron, Deepak Thakur, Shakeel Abbasi, Rehan Butt and Prabhjot Singh.
“From what I have gathered thus far, the league will be very competitive with so many skillful and world class players participating,” says Graham. “It will be a new experience and I aim to pick up as much as I can in order to
help my career.”
Other foreign players recruited by UniKL-TRC for the MHL include Richard Petherick of New Zealand, Kevin Lim and Philipp Stahr of Germany.
