Stephen Hendry advances with ease
Stephen Hendry  made his way into the last 32 of the World Open at Glasgow after a convincing 3-0 victory over the unknown Belgium player Bjorn Haneveer. Hendry’s third round match threw up few surprises as the Scottish 7 time World Champion ran out the
easy winner. The win will give more confidence to Hendry who has achieved everything in the game, but has found it difficult to recapture the heights he reached in the 90’s.
With breaks of 55 and 76, Hendry was able to win convincingly in a best of five frame match. Haneveer had little chance against the more skilled and experienced Scot and was forced to watch from his seat for most of the match. Hendry was in great form and
showed a confidence around the table sinking his long pots with ease. His break building was easily good enough to take the first three frames and win the match. Though Haneveer didn’t have much of a chance and was kept off the table, the Belgium snooker player
seemed nervous and the bulk of the gallery were supporting their local hero in Hendry. Hendry was more than pleased with his form and his performance, stating that “to win 3-0 is all you can ask for. The drive took longer than the match and it’s nice to come
through unscathed.”
Hendry will now face the Englishman Mark Davis in the 4th round. Davis beat Jamie Jones of Wales in equally convincing fashion. Hendry knows he will have to maintain his current form if he is to beat Davis who is playing some of the best snooker
of his career. In such short matches it is easy to find yourself sitting away from the table and there is very little margin for error. Hendry will hold the advantage with the home support.
He has also played in countless short frame matches and will expect to progress.  That match will take place tomorrow at 7 pm. There are still a number of rounds left and a lot of big names such as Mark Williams, Ali Carter, Stephen McGuire and the defending World
Champion Ian Roberson will still have hopes of lifting the trophy on the 26th of September. Ronnie O’ Sullivan will be the favourite to lift the title, but with Hendry in such good form the Scots man will hope to still be in the tournament come
the 26th of September on final day.
