Stephen Hendry eager to play Jimmy White in 2012 Snooker Legends Cup – Snooker News
Former seven-time World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s Stephen Hendry is placed in the final round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifying session against the Chinese potter Yu Delu and is aiming to hit the first round of the mega event. However,
the Golden Boy is eyeing to face the former six-time World Snooker Championship runner up, the People’s Champion Jimmy White in the upcoming 2012 Snooker Legends Cup.
The legendary pair has played against each other in four World Championship finals where Hendry was victorious. The Scotsman is looking forward to play against the Englishman and cannot wait for the match. The pair will relive their memories playing at the
Bedworth arena in the presence of their fans along with the referee, Michaela Tabb and the former three-time World Snooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Speaking to the media about White, Hendry said, “Jimmy was a very important part of my Crucible journey, having beaten him in four finals. We dominated it for years, and had some fantastic battles – for four or five years for me, it was all about beating
the Whirlwind. And for him to have fallen at the final hurdle so often must have been very painful.”
The Ice Man added, “I can’t wait to play him there on Friday, and we’ll probably never have that chance again in that arena on one table. He was the ‘People’s Champion’ the one everyone wanted to win.”
The veteran duo dominated the game of snooker in its prime and was considered unstoppable. They played many times at the same baize to amuse the fans and once again they will be together in the Legends Cup.
Meanwhile, Hendry has his eyes on the 2012 World Snooker Championship as he believes he can win another world title this year. He is currently present at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield where he will meet Yu Delu in the final qualifier. Should he
manage to enter the opening round of the mega event, he will be playing against the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Final winner, England’s Stephen Lee. It will be interesting to see how Hendry manages to put in a good performance and build up
some winning momentum.
