Stephen Hendry ecstatic after qualifying for 2012 World Snooker Championship – Snooker News
Former seven-time World Snooker Championship winner from Scotland, Stephen Hendry has made his way successfully into the first round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship after beating young Chinese, Yu Delu in the final qualifying match at the World Snooker
Academy in Sheffield. Now the veteran has got another chance to clinch the world title and make history.
The Golden Boy is quite focused now on his game and is looking forward to make an appearance at the Crucible Theatre. Hendry is aiming to face the reigning World Snooker Champion John Higgins during his run in the mega event. Another target Hendry must be
focusing on getting back his place in the World’s Top 16 which he lost in the recent season.
The Ice Man dominated the baize from the beginning and instantly pushed the Chinese 6-3 down at the end of the first day. The match resumed on the second day with a 6-3 score line and Hendry cruised into four frame wins to claim the victory. The veteran
is quite happy after winning the qualifier and is targeting his eighth world title.
Speaking to World Snooker about his match, Hendry said, “I feel absolutely fantastic. I didn’t expect this to happen this week. I didn’t think about becoming the youngest ever at all, although I knew about the record. I believe I can be a future world champion.”
The Golden Brain added, “The most important thing was to just go out with the mindset of needing to win the match, no matter how I played, just get the match won. I went to the Crucible last year to watch some matches so I’ll know what to expect. I haven’t
thought about who I want to play next.”
Meanwhile, former World Snooker Champion, Ken Doherty also made his way into the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. The event will be quite thrilling because veteran potters are coming into the opening rounds to face the top 16 at the
same baize at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. It will be interesting to see how Hendry can build up some confidence in his game and put in a tremendous performance in the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
