Stephen Hendry has beaten Joe Perry by a frame score of 10-9 in the first round of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, which is being held at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England.
The King of the Crucible, Stephen Hendry, showed nerves of steel to clinch the victory from the jaws of defeat in the final deciding frame. The overall score-line between both the players was 62-73, 68-34, 0-68, 64-55, 133-1, 42-76, 74-10, 73-23, 117-0,
7-80, 63-74, 29-59, 67-59, 0-109, 62-51, 13-63, 53-4, 8-70 and 62-34.
The seven-time world champion, Stephen Hendry, took a solid start on the first day at the Crucible, as he ended the session with a 6-3 lead over the Englishman, Joe Perry. The forty-two-year-old, Hendry, in the meanwhile, also showcased mind-boggling
century breaks of 133 and 117 in the fifth and the ninth frame respectively.
However, it was a different story on the second day, as the under-dog, Perry, clawed back and levelled the things by 6-6. He also went ahead by 6-7 before the Scottish Professional bounced back to make the scores tied at 7-7. The pair was locked badly,
as they traded all of the following four frames until the match went into the final deciding frame.
It was a dramatic final frame, as the world number thirty, Perry, was the first one to be among the balls. He almost was on the verge to clinch the victory before he lost his nerves and missed a simple brown ball. The world number thirteen, Hendry,
who was trailing 53-1, however showed nerves of still there to pull the victory.
Hendry has finally secured a place in the last-16 of this year’s World Snooker Championship and he will now face the winner between the match of Mark Selby and Jimmy Robertson, which will be played on Wednesday, 20 April.
The Scottish Legend was very delighted with his win, as he has also saved himself from losing the top 16 spot. Hendry since 1998 has never been put out of the top 16 players.
