Stephen Hendry faces Stephen Maguire in quarter-final of 2012 World Snooker Championship
After a tremendous snooker display at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, the former seven-time World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s Stephen Hendry cruised into the quarter-final stage of the 2012 World Snooker Championship after beating the defending Champion,
compatriot John Higgins by the score line of 13-4. Hendry will be facing another Scotsman, Stephen Maguire in the quarter-final stage.
The veteran potter hit the leading spot very early in the game. At the conclusion of the first day, Hendry was leading the match by eight frames at 12-4. Higgins could only add four frames on his side of the scoreboard at the end of first two sessions. Hendry
clinched the 17th frame to win the match 13-4 and booked his place in the quarter-final stage as he is aiming to clinch his eighth World Snooker Championship title.
Meanwhile, Maguire played impressively against England’s Joe Perry in the second round clash and defeated him by the score line of 13-7 to reserve his place in the quarters. Maguire has been a consistent performer in the event so far and Hendry believes
Maguire has the capability to produce fireworks at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
While speaking to World Snooker after his match with Higgins, Hendry said, “Normally when he is behind he comes out all guns blazing, when his back is against the wall he comes out playing his best snooker. My goal last night was to have a lead and it turned
into a weird session. John's had a poor season by his standards. This place is hard, if you miss a few balls it's hard to get going.”
The Hendry-Maguire match will be thrilling as both potters are in full swing. They have played at the same baize before where in all matches, Maguire was victorious which gives him a psychological advantage over the veteran potter. Nevertheless, Hendry is
confident that he will give a tough time to Maguire in the quarters. The fans will be looking for an exciting match-up as both players are in top form and it looks like it will be an epic battle. It will be interesting to see which player manages to put in
a good performance and advance in the tournament.
