Stephen Hendry fires maximum 147 break in 2012 World Snooker Championship – Snooker News
Opening round matches of the 2012 World Snooker Championship have begun with the encounter between the defending Champion John Higgins and the Chinese cueman Liang Wenbo where Higgins claimed the victory over Wenbo to hit the second round spot.
The second match was played between the former seven-time World Snooker Championship winner Stephen Hendry and the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner, Stuart Bingham where Hendry compiled his 11th maximum 147 break to equal Ronnie O’Sullivan’s
record. Firing 147 at such a prestigious stage will definitely boost Hendry’s confidence in the upcoming match against Higgins.
The Golden Boy had a superb run in the Championship with his first victory over the Englishman. He cruised into 7-1 lead putting up a classy snooker display at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. With his 11th maximum break, the Ice Man has sent
a message to the snooker world that he still has the spark in his cue stick and can unsettle any opponent.
While speaking to World Snooker after his match, Hendry said about his maximum break, “I have a match still to win, but the 147 was probably one of my best, position-wise, and it was absolutely fantastic to make a third maximum here. I felt really good out
there, and the jetlag - well, sleep is for wimps. It's the new way, fly in to Sheffield the day before with no practice!”
The veteran potter added, “That ties with me with Ronnie to have made three here, and I don't care what Mark Williams says about the Crucible, there is no better feeling than to make on here.”
The Scotsman has set up John Higgins clash in the second round of the Championship. The clash will be one of the most thrilling encounters of the event as both cuemen wanted this match. Higgins defeated China’s Liang Wenbo after a tussling game by the score
line of 10-9. He was under immense pressure as he entered the arena but still the Scot managed to stay focused and concentrated on his contest.
Meanwhile, Hendry was able to oust Bingham by an easy score line of 10-4 to surge into the next stage against Higgins.
