Stephen Hendry hopes Ronnie O’Sullivan will not quit – Snooker Update
Former seven-time World Snooker Champion from Scotland, Stephen Hendry crashed out of the quarter-final encounter of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the hands of compatriot Stephen Maguire by the score line of 2-13. After his defeat, Hendry announced
his retirement from world snooker with all his memories.
Along with Hendry, another potter, the eventual 2012 World Snooker Championship winner, the Englishman Ronnie O’Sullivan also hinted is retirement from the game before he was about to play the final encounter against Ali Carter.
However, after winning the championship, it seems that he will think over his decision and Hendry also wants him to stay in the game as he is hoping that the Essex Exocet will not leave the sport.
While speaking to the local media, Hendry said, “Ronnie's at the stage of his career where he wants a buzz out of the game. If every tournament was like the World Championship, I'm sure he would play on, but a lot of the smaller tournaments are not as enjoyable.
It doesn't sound like Barry's going to be begging Ronnie to stay.”
He added, “But I wouldn't like to be in his position, trying to sell a tournament without the marquee players. It's like when Tiger Woods wasn't playing - the viewing figures for golf went down and the sponsors didn't show the same interest. I think we'll
find the same with O'Sullivan.”
O’Sullivan was quite happy after clinching the Championship title for the fourth time in his career. The Rocket is now on the highway to break Stephen Hendry’s record but he believes he will not be able to break it. On the other hand, the veteran Scottish
potter said that O’Sullivan has the spark to break his record of the most World titles so he should not quit the game yet.
Game of snooker is spreading across the world with each passing day because the governing body has made some drastic moves and reforms in order to make the game more popular globally. In this regard, World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn’s contribution cannot
be forgotten because he has placed the game in the list of most famous sports across the globe.
