Stephen Hendry looks for top 8 spot in 2011-12 Snooker Season: 2011 Australian Goldfields Open
Scottish snooker legend, Stephen Hendry is looking forward to regain his place in world’s Top-8 in 2011-12 Snooker Season. Hendry believes 2011 Australian Goldfields Open will be the event for him to make it into the Top-8 this season.
Hendry dropped out of the Top-16 at the end of 2010-11 snooker season due to an unconvincing performance. The veteran was also on the brink of retiring from the snooker world after the 2011 World Snooker Championship, however, he decided to return to the
game with a new spirit, and is now aiming to regain his place in the Top-8 of the world.
For the first time in his 23-year long snooker career, Hendry has moved out of world’s Top-16, as he currently holds the world number 17 spot. The Golden Boy is now determined to clinch his well deserved place among the top guns of snooker. The start of
2011-12 Snooker Season was not according to what fans expected from Hendry but he is hopeful for his return to form.
Hendry believes the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open, first major ranking snooker event in Australia, will be a chance for him to get back on his feet. The event starts from Monday, July 18 at Bendigo Stadium in Victoria, featuring snooker stars from around
the world. The 42-year-old Hendry will be facing Martin Gould of England in his first round match.
While speaking to the local media, The Ice Man said, “That's my immediate goal, to be in the top 16 when the cut-off point comes. But my longer term goal is to get into the top eight. You have to set yourself high targets and I think it's achievable.”
He added, “The start of the season is always something to look forward to and I want to get off to a good start. I've been practising a lot, in fact I've hardly stopped since the end of last season. It's probably the first time in my career that I've not
really had a summer break. I have a table at home so it's easy just to do a few hours.”
Hendry began his run for the 2011-12 snooker season by participating in Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 1, however, he could not make it to the final stages of the competition. He lost to England’s Kyren Wilson in the very first round by 4-3 and crashed
out of the tournament.
