Stephen Hendry ousts John Higgins in a thriller: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Spectators present at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield witness a major blow in the second round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship where the former seven-time World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s Stephen Hendry trashed the defending Champion, compatriot
John Higgins by an easy score line of 13-4.
The match up was expected to be a thrilling encounter as both potters were on top of their game but Hendry’s classy game play did not give any chances to Higgins to come back.
The defending Champion was totally out of luck during the game and was not able to show his true class against the veteran Stephen Hendry. The first day proceedings were dominated by the Golden Boy as he clinched 12 frames in the early sessions playing brilliantly
against the Wizard of Wishaw. On the other hand, Higgins could win only four frame victories.
Hendry put Higgins under a lot of pressure at the end of the first day with eight frame lead. Higgins still had hopes for returning into the game but unfortunately he could not get any chance as Hendry cruised into the 17th frame victory firing
a classy clearance of 64 points. Hendry is feeling quite confident playing at the Crucible Theatre and is aiming to hit his eighth title.
While speaking to World Snooker, Hendry said, “The first session was high standard and I thought I played quite well. Last night was one of the strangest sessions of snooker I've played at the Crucible. I'm fortunate that John has never played worse than
that in his life.”
The Golden Brain added, “I was getting 5 or 6 chances a frame and sometimes I was coming to the table in shock and not knowing what to do. It was weird. If someone said I would beat John Higgins 13-4 I would've said they were nuts.”
The Wonder Brain will be meeting with compatriot Stephen Maguire in the quarter-final stage. Hendry believes Maguire is a tough opponent and the game will be a tussling encounter. On the other hand, the veteran is also set to achieve his goal winning another
world title. It will be exciting to see how Hendry manages to carry his winning momentum forward in the tournament.
