Stephen Hendry thinking about retirement from snooker – Snooker News
Snooker veteran from Scotland, the former seven-time World Snooker Champion Stephen Hendry will meet the Chinese Yu Delu in the final round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifying session at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The Scotsman is aiming to make an appearance in the event so that he can clinch one more World title before he decides to announce his retirement.
After crashing out of the second round of the 2011 World Snooker Championship at the hands of World Number one Mark Selby by 4-13, Hendry gave hints of his retirement and even announced that he will be quitting snooker soon. However, after consulting his
family and friends, the Golden Boy decided to stay in the game but he said that he will play only major snooker events.
He is currently present in England looking forward to play against Yu Delu and win the game to make his way into the televised stages of the mega event. The Ice Man has never been out of Top 16 in 23 years of his career but for the first time he fell out
of the top league. He is also targeting to hit back into the Top 16 again before he considers leaving the game for good.
While speaking to the local media, Hendry said, “I enjoy playing still, but obviously I am nearer the end of my career than the start. In the future, retirement is something I will think about, that’s why I am doing a lot more things away from snooker.”
The Scot added, “I will still be playing snooker, whether it’s things like the Legends Tour – I don’t think I will ever put the cue down in my life, I love the sport – but in terms of playing competitively at 50, not a chance. It will be fantastic to play
Jimmy at the Crucible, it will bring back a lot of memories.”
The Wonder Brain was not able to play up to the mark in the current season and missed his Top 16 spot after showing poor performance in certain major snooker events. His only noticeable accomplishment was surging into the quarter-final stages of the 2011
Brazil Masters.
