Stephen Hendry white-washes Matthew Stevens in the last 32 – China Open 2011
The Master Class, Stephen Hendry, has completely white-washed the Welsh Dragon, Matthew Stevens, by a frame score of 5-0 in a best-of-nine match in the last 32 of Beijing China Open held at Beijing Students University Gymnasium in China.
Stevens was one of the strong contestants for the China Open trophy, as he recently won the Champion League Snooker and was playing on the top of his game. He also had a lot of confidence, but his hopes have been ended in the first round by the King of Crucible,
Stephen Hendry.
Hendry produced a spectacular game with some classy breaks of 100, 93, 75 and 62 and the overall score line was 100-0, 77-7, 93-1, 75-1 and 96-0.
He took a flying start in the first frame by firing up a mind boggling century break of 100 giving his opponent no chance. First chance in the second frame fell for Stevens, but he lost his nerve, breaking down on 7, and a chance was given. Though he was
brought back a few times on the table, but the flawless safety of the Scottish did not let him pot anything until finally Hendry wrapped up the frame with a couple of quick fires, 39 and 24, to lead by 2-0.
The third and fourth frames were over within a blink of an eye, as the seven-time world champion produced magnificent back to back breaks of 93 and 75 to leave his opponent 4 frames down with five to play, and he took the fifth frame with carving breaks
of 22 and 62 to seal a comfortable 5-0 win over his opponent.
The current number 16, Stevens, was only able to pot 9 points during the whole match. However the devastating form of Hendry has shown his bright chances for the matches ahead and also for the upcoming world championship as well.
The other results that have come out as of yet on the opening day of Beijing China Open are as below:
Marcus Campbell 5-3 Mei Xi Wen
Kurt Maflin 5-3 Cao Yupeng
Joe Perry 5-2 Li Yan
