Stephen Hoiles achilles tendon issues force him out of Super XV – Rugby news
ACT Brumbies captain, Stephen Hoiles, will not take part in any of the remaining games in this year’s Super Rugby competition.
Hoiles suffered a knee injury last year and during the off-season, doctors operated on his knee. He worked his way into the team after passing the fitness test in a bid to be available for the team in the upcoming season.
However, Hoiles ended up playing only a single game in the 2011 season. Hoiles played his only match of the season against the Chiefs at Canberra Stadium during round one encounters of the super xv. Brumbies won the match 28 – 20 as Hoiles replaced Ita Vaea
at number 8 position during the 55th minute of the game.
The Chiefs who came back strongly at the start of the second-half put pressure on Hoiles. The player showed his classes during his 27 minute stay on the field and made four successful tackles.
However, his performance and hard physical exercises to get fit quickly backfired as his injury developed into something else. Hoiles termed the improper diagnostic as “frustrating” and all the running and training has made the injury more severe.
Hoiles said, “Playing in round one developed it into a different injury, now it's a tendonitis issue so trying to play early this year proved costly.”
The 29-year-old confirmed today that he will not take any further part in this year Super Rugby championships due to a slow recovery from the tendon injury.
Australian international further added that he will not risk his injury again with a speedy recovery and will give himself time to recover. He said, “It's starting to improve a fair bit in terms of day-to-day walking around and my rehab stuff, but I'm not
running for at least another four to six weeks.”
Hoiles joined Waratahs in 2006 to start his Super Rugby career. He scored 10 points in 26 appearances for them before signing with the ACT Brumbies in 2007.
Before making his international debut for Australia in 2004, Hoiles represented both Australian Sevens and Australian A teams and his international debut came against the Scotland. He so far has made 16 appearances for Wallabies and has scored 15 points.
Hoiles has targeted a return to action later in the year. Matt Giteau will lead the team in the remaining matches as he has done so far in the season while Ita Vaea will continue to start at the number 8 position in the rest of the games.
