Stephen Hunt hopes to return for Wolves
Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Stephen Hunt has being declared fit for their match with West Ham United in the Premier League this Saturday.
Hunt has been injured for eight months with a foot injury. The left sided midfielder has yet to make his debut for Wolves having injured himself while playing for his previous club Hull City in February.
Hunt played 45 minutes of reserve team football for Wolves against Wigan last night.
The Wolves midfielder said, “The foot felt good and I was happy to get 45 minutes. To play 45 minutes was always the plan, although I probably could have played for longer.”
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is unlikely to play Hunt from the start, but the Republic of Ireland international hopes that he can play some part in an important league game.
Hunt admitted: “It would be great to play against West Ham. It’s a big game for us after four defeats in a row. To play 15-20 minutes on Saturday might not be beyond me. If I’m needed to start the game then I’m sure I could, but it’s down to the manager.”
McCarthy is likely to introduce Hunt as a substitute over the next few weeks to allow the midfielder to build up his match fitness.
Hunt believes that playing football with the reserves helped him regain some of his match practice, but that the Premier League was what he was really looking towards.
The Wolves winger said, “I found myself making the runs I normally make and I’m going to get sharper and better as the weeks go on. But the real stuff is on Saturday at 3pm. That pressure is what I really enjoy and hopefully I can have a taste of it this
weekend and at Chelsea the following week.”
Wolves have coped well with Hunt’s absence and Matthew Jarvis has played extremely well on the left side of midfield, so Hunt will have to battle to make the position his own.
