Stephen Ireland vows to play a crucial role at Aston Villa next season – EPL News
Out of form Aston Villa midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stephen-Ireland-c34149, has vowed to fight for a starting eleven place in Alex McLeish’s squad for the upcoming 2011/12 Barclays Premier League campaign. The Irish midfielder is determined to regain his form and has asserted
that he will give his best for the Villans next season.
Ireland joined Aston Villa as a part of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Milner-c17706 sale to Manchester City and signed a four-year contract. However, the 24-year-old failed to establish himself at the Villa Park.
The Irish attacking midfielder also had a frosty relationship with the then Aston Villa manager, Gerard Houllier. Things did not work out well between Ireland and Houllier and as a result of which the 24-year-old was loaned out to Newcastle United in the
January 2011 transfer window.
Ireland now wants to excel under the newly-appointed Aston Villa manager, Alex McLeish, and has insisted that he will try his hardest to earn a first team place at the Villa Park next season.
The 24-year-old Ireland international has revealed that he is very committed to Aston Villa and will work hard in all preseason matches to impress McLeish. He further insisted that his sole aim for the next season is to play as many games as possible.
“All pre-season I'm going to work really hard to try and get in the new gaffer's plans. Hopefully I can stay there. I set goals for myself. I want to try and get in the team and play the best that I can.” The former Manchester City player said.
Ireland admitted that he has been out of form for the past two seasons but he is determined to bounce back in empathetic fashion and has assured that he will keep on working hard to regain his form and sharpness.
He added, “I need that because I've not really had a good run in the last couple of seasons.”
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder believes that he needs to play four to five good games at the start of the season in order to win back his form that had made him one of the influential players during his time at Manchester City.
Ireland is hopeful of returning to his best at the earliest and is confident that he will not endure such a poor spell in his career again.
“It might take four or five games at the start of the season to get that back, but hopefully as soon as I do I can look forward and not look back.” The Irish concluded.
