Stephen Jackson wants to end his career with the San Antonio Spurs – NBA Update
Stephen Jackson has had a well travelled 12 year NBA career but he seems to have finally found a home with the San Antonio Spurs.
Jackson has been a part of seven different teams and the longest tenure he has had is the three and a half seasons he spent with the Golden State Warriors. However the 34 year old veteran is settling in well with the Spurs and
blossomed late last season. Coming into next season, Jackson would enter his second year with the Western Conference powerhouse.
With only a few years left in the tank, Jackson would like to end his career there, but still hasn’t ruled the possibility out of being moved away to another team.
“If things work out in San Antonio I wouldn’t mind finishing my career there. But you know it’s a business and I’m one of those guys that doesn’t mind going to play somewhere else.”
Moving has been a constant part of his life ever since he was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1997 as the 43rd selection. He was waived off before even making a single NBA appearance and it was only in 2000, when he officially
started his NBA career with the New Jersey Nets. The forward had a rather successful rookie campaign by averaging 8.2 points per game.
However after being injured for most of the following season, Jackson’s numbers saw a drastic decline. And the moving hasn’t stopped ever since.
The player was part of the Spurs roster when they won the championship back in 2003. His second stint with the team started last season during which he played 21 games and averaged 8.9 points.
Jackson’s productivity can be credited to one of NBA’s best coaches in form Gregg Popovich who is known for getting the best out of his players. He may not be able to produce the same level of performances he did in his prime with
the Charlotte Bobcats, leading them to their first ever playoff appearance in 2010, but is still more than a handful role player, who can bring a lot of intensity on the court.
