Stephen Lee crashes Mark Williams in Bank of Beijing China Open 2011: Round one - Snooker news
Englishman, Stephen Lee, crashed defending champion, Mark Williams, 5-4, after a thrilling potting display in the first round match of the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011. Lee will face Ronnie O’Sullivan or Ryan Day in the second round.
The 36-years-old Welshman definitely stunned the 2006 Welsh Open winner, Lee, from the start of the game. He clinched back-to-back frames, firing a couple of sensational century breaks of 100 and 113. Williams took the first two frames 32-100 and 0-113,
respectively.
Though Lee was pushed two frames down in the beginning, but the winner of four ranking titles bounced back beautifully in the next games. He sparked his cue all over the table outstandingly and grabbed three consecutive frames at 111-13, 60-34, 60-49, firing
some decent breaks of 86, 46 and 52, respectively. The defending champion Williams from Wales was nudged one frame down at 3-2 by the spirited Englishman.
The 2011 German Masters winner, Williams, came back hard and again clinched back-to-back frames. He cued two exceptional century breaks of 104 and 137 in the sixth and seventh frames, respectively. He gained a one-frame lead in the match, as the score moved
to 3-4.
The 2001 Scottish Open winner, Stephen Lee, struck back and levelled the game at 4-4, after he took the scrappy eighth frame, 84-16. He pocketed comprehensive breaks of 32 and 48 to snatch the frame. The Euro Players Tour Championship (PTC) 2010-11 Event
4 winner, Lee, forced the match into a decider frame. Lee gave in a winning break of 61 in the decider frame and took the best-of-nine frames match by 5-4.
The frame scores of the match were 32-100, 0-113, 111-13, 60-34, 60-49, 8-104, 0-137, 84-16 and 72-70.
The Englishman surged into the second round of the event, where he will meet either Ronnie O’Sullivan or Ryan Day in the second round. Both cueists are playing their first-round matches of the event tomorrow at the Peking University Students Gymnasium in
Beijing. The tournament will conclude on April 3, 2011.
