Stephen Lee gives credit to Barry Hearn for his revival in snooker – Snooker News
After putting up an excellent snooker show at the Bailey Allen Hall in Galway, Ireland, England’s Stephen Lee was able to win the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals beating Australia’s Neil Robertson by the score line of 4-0. He showed
impressive improvement in the current season and has placed himself in the top potters of the world.
Lee believes that his improvement in the game during the recent season is because of the drastic steps the World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn took to promote the game. The Englishman has given credit to Hearn for his revival in the game and said that Hearn’s
outstanding initiatives have played an important role in his game’s improvement.
While speaking to the media, Lee said, “My revival is all down to Barry's good work, giving us tournaments every week. I struggled a couple of years ago when we had six events and I felt like I had a monkey on each shoulder screaming at me every shot I took
on.”
He added, “I've been enjoying my snooker in the last three months and I've got rid of those monkeys. I've enjoyed getting out of bed in the mornings, when before I wasn't getting out of bed in the mornings.”
Before winning the PTC Grand Finals, Lee played terrifically in the 2012 Haikou World Open snooker tournament and reached the final encounter of the event against Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen. He played unexpectedly poor in the final and lost to Allen by
the score line of 1-10. However, after that he showed great comeback and clinched the PTC Finals.
Meanwhile, Lee is waiting anxiously for his challenger in the first round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Lee is determined to play well in the mega event and win his first World title this year.
The World Championship will commence from April 21 at the Crucible Theatre where top guns including the defending champion John Higgins, the former three-time World Snooker Championship winner Ronnie O’Sullivan, the 2011 UK Championship winner Judd Trump,
the 2012 Welsh Open winner Ding Junhui and the World Number one England’s Mark Selby.
