Stephen Lee likes addition of more snooker events in snooker calendar – Snooker News
Before the current World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn joined the organisation as the boss in 2009, there were a few snooker events in the calendar and because of that the game could not attract many snooker fans. Snooker was considered as a slow and boring
game until Hearn took some drastic steps and changed the face of the game.
He introduced many new snooker events of different formats so that the potters could have more opportunities to play. Adding more major and minor ranking snooker tournaments in the calendar did bring a positive response not only from the players but also
from the spectators. Now the calendar is full of snooker tournaments and the game has become one of the most watched sports in the world.
Winner of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Final, England’s Stephen Lee, also appreciated the World Snooker Chairman and liked the increased number of tournaments in the season. He believes that a player like him who does not practise much,
more events play a crucial role in building the skills. He reckoned the competitions like PTC and some other minor ranking contests have given him a lot of confidence at the baize.
While speaking to On Cue in his interview, Lee said, “It's a lot tougher out there now. There are tough opponents and everyone's as match sharp as one another. It's been a long-time coming and I didn't really see it but I'm enjoying it a lot more. There's
no point lowering the barriers when you're playing the likes of Peter Ebdon and Matthew Stevens.”
The 37-year-old added, “The PTCs have helped me because I'm playing matches every week. I've never been a big one to practice but I will sit there and put the work in on my own if I have to. I believe in getting my timing right and my cueing right and taking
it out on your opponent in a tournament.”
Meanwhile, the Englishman will be moving to Sheffield to take part in the 2012 World Snooker Championship where he will spark his cue stick in order to hit the championship victory at the Crucible Theatre.
