Stephen Lee looking to retain his place in Top 16 after playing in 2011-12 PTC Grand Final
England’s Stephen Lee has been playing consistently in the 2011-12 Snooker Season and has earned his place in the Top 16 potters of the World. The Englishman is now heading to the Bailey Allen Hall in Galway, Ireland to participate in the 2011-12 Players
Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Final. Lee is aiming to retain his place in the World Top 16 after playing impressively in the tournament.
Last season was not good for England’s Stephen Lee as he crashed out of the World Top 16 potters. After losing his place in the Top 16 and had to play in the qualifiers to enter the initial stage of any major ranking snooker tournament. The Englishman finished
the season on World Number 18 rank with a low match winning rate of 66.7 percent.
He began his campaign in the 2011-12 Snooker Season with the hopes to get back into the World Top 16 potters. He played convincingly in all major and minor ranking events and played up to the mark in some of them. Although he was not able to win any major
ranking snooker event but still he managed to reach the final stages of many mega events which improved his rankings.
After playing brilliantly in the 2012 Haikou World Open snooker competition at the Haikou Stadium Arena in the Hainan Island, Lee successfully ranked himself up from World Number 18 to World Number 11 with the match winning rate of 69.5 percent. The 37-year-old
Lee is now aiming to sustain his current form and remain in the World Top 16 so that he could perform better in the future.
Speaking to World Snooker about his ambition, Lee said, “I'm playing with a lot of confidence at the moment and I've taken pressure off myself by making sure of my top 16 place. I was disappointed to lose 10-1 in the final to Mark Allen in China, I didn't
sleep well before the match and I just couldn't get to grips with him.”
The Trowbridge potter added, “But when I look back to a couple of years ago when I was falling down the rankings, struggling with my game and felt like I had the world on my shoulders, I feel so much better now and I'm really enjoying the game.”
The 2011-12 PTC Grand final will commence from March 14 in Ireland featuring the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, Judd Trump, Mark Selby, Mark Allen and Mark Williams.
