Stephen Lee stuns Neil Robertson to lift 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals title – Snooker News
Continuous hard work from England’s Stephen Lee finally paid him off as he cruised into the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals victory after earning a marvellous whitewash final triumph against the former World Snooker Champion, Australia’s
Neil Robertson. The Englishman showed some tremendous snooker genius at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Ireland to hit his first title of the season.
Lee failed to claim his first major ranking title of the season when he lost the final encounter of 2012 Haikou World Open against Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen. The Trowbridge potter was disappointed over his performance in the said tournament but still
he did not lose his grip and continued performing well in the PTC Grand Finals which eventually earned him the title.
The final clash of PTC Grand Finals was totally dominated by the English potter who put the Aussie under pressure from the very start of the match. Robertson had no clue to tackle the situation and tumbled down in the end by a whitewash score line of 4-0.
Lee compiled a couple of decent breaks of 52 and 73 along with some small ones to hit the victory.
While speaking to World Snooker after his win, Lee said, “I didn't let Neil get going, and in these short matches if you don't settle in the first couple of frames then you can lose 4-0. It's a cracking feeling, it makes all the hard work and travelling
worthwhile. A big thanks goes to Barry Hearn because he's got all the lads buzzing about the game again.”
He added, “I knew I was good enough, I just couldn't cope with playing six tournaments a year. There was so much pressure on every event and it was a horrible feeling. The game is in a great situation now and I just wish I was ten years younger.”
The 37-year-old Lee will be heading to China to take part in the 2012 China Open snooker event where he will be meeting compatriot Tom Ford in the first round of the event at Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena in Beijing.
