Stephen Lee thanks his fans for their support in 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals – Snooker News
Winner of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals, England’s Stephen Lee has appreciated his fans for their support throughout his career. The Englishman clinched his first ranking title after six years which has given him a lot of confidence
for his upcoming clashes. The 37-year-old is now present in Beijing where he will be taking part in the 2012 China Open snooker tournament.
Lee won his last major ranking snooker tournament back in 2006 when he defeated the former World Snooker Champion, compatriot Shaun Murphy in the final of 2006 Welsh Open snooker event by the score line of 9-4. After that Lee’s performance slipped down and
he failed to improvise according to the situations.
Nevertheless, he fought back in the second half of the 2011-12 Snooker Season and made his way into the final encounter of the 2012 Welsh Open against Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen but unfortunately he lost to Allen by an easy score line of 1-10. Reaching
the final clash of Welsh Open did bring back his confidence and he clinched the next event, PTC Finals, impressively beating Scotland’s Stephen Maguire by 4-2.
Speaking to the media, Lee said, “It just means a lot to me and it’s a nice, warm feeling. It’s been a long time coming but my family and a lot of my mates have always believed in me. It’s great when it comes off because it shows they were right. I have
to say a big thanks to all of them, including people like Paul Shanley and the Paul family at Swindon’s 147 Club.”
He added, “When I beat Selby, I knew I had a chance because he’s been a pain in my backside in recent years. It was also a nice feeling to beat Neil Robertson because I don’t think he had ever lost a final. I’m over the moon.”
Lee will meet compatriot Tom Ford in the first round of the 2012 China Open at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium. Lee is aiming to continue his god form in the event so that he can add more titles to his account and also improve his rankings.
