Stephen Maguire clinches UKPTC1 title beating Jack Lisowski – Snooker Update
First event of the 2012 UK Players Tour Championship (UKPTC) finished successfully at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.
In the final encounter of the event, Scotland’s Stephen Maguire, who is considered one of the toughest opponents, was up against the young and talented Jack Lisowski of England.
After a tremendous game play at the SWSA baize, Maguire was able to defeat his opponent by the score line of 4-3.
The clash went the way it was expected because both potters showed great deal of determination during their run in the event. The pair was in good shape and had tremendous campaign in the final encounter. The first session of the match finished at 2-2 but
Maguire triumphed in the decisive frame of the final session and claimed the title by 4-3.
While speaking to World Snooker after his victory, Maguire said, “I came to this event with a different attitude. I was willing to battle and play a safety game if I needed to. This season I'm going to try not to push the boat out too much. If it doesn't
work then next year I'll go back to going for everything.”
He added, “I always start the season the same way, knowing that if I can get my name on a trophy I'll have done well. I don't count this in the same way as a ranking event but it gives me confidence and there are plenty of big tournaments to try to win.”
The final encounter began with a superb 1-0 lead of Maguire when he replied to Lisowski with a classy break of 84 after he was 0-31 down and hit the frame win by 84-31. The young Englishman did not take it hard on him and bounced back brilliantly with a
one visit frame win by 0-70 after he pocketed a superb knock of 70 points.
Maguire grabbed the lead again with 2-1 after claiming the third frame victory by the score line of 92-14 smashing a fine clearance of 75. The fourth frame of the match was a topsy-turvy affair where both cuemen went neck-and-neck but Lisowski was finally
able to triumph by 63-65 to pull level at 2-2.
The next two frames where shared between both of them which dragged the game into the decider frame where Maguire was victorious by the score line of 69-56.
