Stephen Maguire ecstatic after beating Jack Lisowski in 2012 UKPTC – Snooker Update
Final encounter of the 2012 UK Players Tour Championship (UKPTC) was one of the most tussling games of the contest where Scotland’s Stephen Maguire and England’s Jack Lisowski were up against each other.
The clash finished in a decisive frame where Maguire showed his class to beat the young Englishman by the score of 4-3. The English potter had no chance against Maguire during the final frame despite the fact that he fired a tremendous half-century break.
It was not Lisowski’s day as Maguire dominated to take a decent victory.
Now that the PTC events also carry ranking points, the players are more serious in their game while participating in the PTCs. Maguire did show some tremendous game-play from the start of the tournament and clinched noticeable wins in his campaign. Winning
the final match was indeed a tremendous success for the Scotsman and he felt quite happy after putting an end to Lisowski’s run.
While speaking to World Snooker after his match, Maguire said, “I always start the season the same way, knowing that if I can get my name on a trophy I'll have done well. I don't count this in the same way as a ranking event but it gives me confidence and
there are plenty of big tournaments to try to win.”
He added, “I think everyone has realised now that the ranking points from the PTC events are important. Plus £10,000 is a lot of money to be won in a weekend.”
The pair went neck-and-neck from the beginning of the match. The first session seemed to be finished in Maguire’s favour when he was leading the match by the score line of 2-1 but the young Englishman bounced back brilliantly to claim the fourth frame by
63-65 and pull level at 2-2.
The Scot seemed to be under immense pressure because Lisowski was in full swing of pushing him down. However, he still managed to win one frame of the first two sets of second session to equalise the game 4-4. Lisowski pocketed a classy break of 56 in the
final frame but it could not help him and Maguire compiled 69 points to win the frame and the match by 4-3.
