Stephen Maguire faces Stephen Lee in semi-final stage of 2012 China Open – Snooker News
After grabbing a tremendous victory against the former three-time World Snooker Champion, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter-final encounter of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena.
With his win over O’Sullivan, Maguire has successfully made his way into the penultimate stage of the tournament where he will be facing the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Final winner from England, Stephen Lee in the second semi-final shot.
The match up will surely be another thriller as both cuemen have worked so hard to reach this level of the contest.
The Scotsman clinched one of the most thrilling competitions on the final black of the final frame of the quarter-final game against O’Sullivan. Despite the fact that the reason behind Maguire’s success over the Rocket was his final shot which turned into
a lucky fluke for him, the Scottish potter has had a great event so far and he is looking forward for a superb game against Lee.
While speaking to the World Snooker in his post match interview, Maguire said, “It's good to see Stephen Lee back playing the way we all know he could. Obviously he was in the top eight for years and I think Stephen will agree that a couple of years ago
his ranking wasn't really true, he was down in the 20s and he was far too good to be that far down in the rankings.”
The Glasgow potter added, “It just shows you what confidence can do, it's just winning matches. I think Stephen will agree that it doesn't matter how you play, winning matches gives you confidence and Stephen is by far the most consistent player in the world
right now.”
Lee took a superb win against the former World Snooker Championship runner up and the winner of the 2011 UK Championship, England’s Judd Trump in the quarter-final match. The defending champion was not able to perform according to the expectations of his
fans and toppled down by an easy score line of 5-3 in the end. Winning over Trump was a tremendous success for Lee as he grabbed back his form after PTC finals.
