Stephen Maguire ousts Joe Perry to win PTC 12 final at Event Forum in Germany – Snooker Update
Scotland’s Stephen Maguire grabbed an easy victory over the Englishman, Joe Perry, after beating him in the final match-up of 2012 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 12 by the score of 4-2 at the Event Forum arena in Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany. The Scotsman
clinched his first ever minor ranking event title of the 2011-12 Snooker Season.
The English potter, Perry, was in his second final of the season but still could not win the match. He was up against the Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan, in the first PTC event’s final, where he was beaten 4-0. On the other hand, Maguire had a struggling season
as he could not clinch any major or minor ranking event during his run.
The final encounter was completely dominated by the Scottish potter. He started the match with a marvellous attempt to build a maximum 147 but unfortunately he could not do it. Despite his failure to achieve the maximum break goal, Maguire clinched the first
scrappy frame in one visit by 105-0 after pocketing a superb knock of 105 points to lead 1-0 in the match.
The Glasgow potter extended his lead 2-0 after he smashed a 77-points break and grabbed another frame in one visit by the score line of 77-0. Maguire was leading 37-5 in the third frame when Perry sprang back into the match and fired a superb clearance of
63 to clinch third frame and move one frame up at 2-1.
Maguire grabbed a strong position in the match after he triumphed over Perry in the fourth frame. He was 0-23 down when he got the chance at the baize. He potted a fine near-century break of 93 and won the frame 93-23. Perry was under immense pressure but
he did not lose his focus and made an impressive comeback with a 75-point break to move 3-2 in the match.
Sixth frame of the PTC 12 final proved to be the last one after Maguire compiled a stunning knock of 62 to claim the frame victory 98-2. Maguire was impressive at the baize and finally managed to win the first event of the current season. He will be looking
forward to perform the same way in 2012 Masters as well.
