Stephen Maguire sets up Stephen Hendry clash beating Joe Perry: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Scotland’s Stephen Maguire earned an easy win over the Englishman Joe Perry in the second round clash of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The on-fire Maguire was outstanding at the baize in the final sessions and
pushed his opponent 13-7 down in the end.
With this victory over Perry, Maguire has made his way into the quarters where he will meet the former seven-time World Snooker Champion, compatriot Stephen Hendry.
The Scot clinched a noticeable lead over the Englishman in the first two session of the game on Day-1 by the score line of 11-5. At this point, the match seemed to be on Maguire’s side because he was in strong position and his performance was outstanding.
The third session gave a superb finish to the match when Maguire took three more frames to win the game by the score line of 13-7.
The Scotsman has now booked his place in the quarter-final stage of the tournament where he will be facing the former World Snooker Champion, Stephen Hendry. Maguire has played against Hendry a couple of times before and has performed brilliantly. However,
this time, it might be different because after beating the defending Champion John Higgins, Hendry is feeling very confident.
While speaking to World Snooker, Maguire said, “I played ok, in all honesty I think Joe was in every frame so I wouldn't say I played well. I must have stolen about six or seven frames off him, which I also did against Luca Brecel. But I'm only getting in
because they're missing on 40 or 50 which isn't good enough.”
He added, “If I come up against anyone who's knocking in 70s or 80s then I'm not going to get a chance to clear up so I have to improve.”
The clash will be thrilling to watch as the pair is in good shape and aiming for the same goal in the 2012 World Snooker Championship. The fans will be looking forward to this exciting match-up as both players will battle it out for a chance to advance in
the tournament.
