Stephen Maguire’s fight back saves his day against Mark Davis in Round 2: 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
Scotland’s Stephen Maguire saved his day after he bounced back from a no hope situation to end the second round clash of 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals against the Englishman, Mark Davis. The match up seemed in favour of Davis from
the start but the Scotsman made a superb comeback in the third frame to clinch the match by an easy score line of 4-2.
The second round clash at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway, Ireland was expected to be a close match because both potters were in good form. However, the match began with a scintillating game play from the Englishman who stormed into a quick 0-2 lead
after he claimed the first two frames firing a couple of decent knocks of 47 points each.
Maguire seemed under a lot of pressure as the Scot seemed to have no clue how to get back into the game because Davis had everything under control. However, the Livewire had a golden opportunity in the third frame and he cashed it to move within one frame
up at 1-2. The second frame win brought him at 2-2 level and he brought himself into a strong position at the end of first session.
The second session proved to be the end of road for Davis as Maguire swept the table in the next two frames to reach the winning spot at the venue with 4-2 score line. The 31-year-old Maguire compiled some outstanding shots of 54 and 59 in the final two
frames to win the match.
Speaking to the World Snooker in his post match interview, Maguire said, “At 2-0 down I was fearing the worst, but I fought back well which was pleasing. It could have gone 3-3 and then it would have been a flip of coin but Mark missed the green, I'm not
sure whether he got a kick. I've been happy with my form this year apart from losing in the first round in Haikou.”
Maguire will next meet England’s Ricky Walden in the quarter-final stage of the 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals. The Scot believes his match with Walden will be quite tough as the Englishman is playing well in the tournament.
