Stephen Moore shines in Lancashire win over Warwickshire: Friends Life Twenty20 - Second Innings Recap
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Wednesday, July 13, 2011.
The hosts looked in a very good position at one stage of the innings and appeared to score more than 150 in their outing. However, they lost their way towards the end of the innings, which cost them about 15-20 runs at the end of the day.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 would have been pleased with the fight back by their bowlers. This was just the half job done though, as they still required batting well in order to reach 140 for victory.
Things didn’t turn out to be as good as the visitors would have expected, as the team was restricted to 127 for the loss of four wickets at the end of their allotted 20 overs. They were given a solid start by opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801, who top
scored the innings with 63 runs, but the effort went in vain.
Batting second was not easy at the Old Trafford, as the bat was not coming onto the bat at a consistent pace. The batsmen found it hard to free their arms, as the pitch got slower and lower with the passage of time.
Porterfield and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Chopra-c2745 put together 53 runs for the opening wicket partnership, guiding their team in a solid position. The latter was unable to capitalise on the start he got to his innings and was sent back to the pavilion after adding 17 runs to
the total off the same number of deliveries faced.
Another half-century stand for the visitors between Porterfield and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Keith-Henderson-Barker-c70622 gave very good momentum to the team. However, both batsmen got out at the wrong time of the innings, leaving their team under immense pressure.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Barker-c47300 was dismissed after collecting 23 runs from 20 balls with the help of three boundaries whereas the Irishman finished with 63 runs off 64 balls, smashing five fours.
Although Porterfield’s innings was a good one, he consumed too many balls and should have stayed until the end for his team. His dismissal really put the Warwickshire team under pressure, as it was not easy for the batsmen to come out and strike the ball
freely on a slow pitch.
Warwickshire’s captain Jim Troughton remained unbeaten on 11 off the same number of deliveries, but was unable to guide his team to a win.
Lancashire’s bowlers did a fabulous job, restricting the opposition to 127 in the end. None of the bowlers conceded much runs and kept the pressure on the batsmen. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Keedy-c58524 was the most economical and ended up with figures of 22/1 in his spell of four
overs.
